Emergency Committee to discuss reintroduction of garden waste collections

Appeal to ‘Respect and Protect’ the Dales

The Leader of Derbyshire Dales District Council, Cllr Garry Purdy, is asking would-be visitors to think twice before making a trip to one of the most beautiful regions in England. The relaxation by the Government of coronavirus travel guidelines means many people who live both inside and outside the area may be contemplating a trip to the Dales' visitor hotspots. Council Leader Councillor Garry Purdy said: "While I totally understand the temptation to seek some respite from the constraints placed on all of us by the coronavirus crisis, my appeal to anyone considering a trip is not to focus so much on what you can now do but rather what you should do. Visiting the Dales right now will undoubtedly create tensions in our communities as well as placing pressure on our roads and emergency services, and, as a former police officer myself, I have a massive amount of sympathy for the policing job now facing the force. I am fortunate to represent an area of the Dales that includes Matlock Bath, which is a magnet for tourists at this time of year, but I am asking visitors to respect and protect the residents of Matlock Bath and all of the district's many honeypot villages by staying away for now. We will welcome you back with open arms when this virus is properly under control - our leisure and tourism businesses, most of which continue to be closed, need your support in the long term. But, for now, please don't put our already limited local services under unnecessary pressure."

Household Waste Recycling Centres

DCC will be opening recycling centres in the area from 18th May. Please log on to to read the very detailed conditions. Centres will be open for certain residents depending on the last number of their number plates - even will be allowed on even dates and odd numbers on odd dates. Please read the instructions before proceeding to the centres. Only take a trip to the centres if you are unable to store your recycling at home.

11 May 2020

Small businesses liable for business rates are reminded that if they have received a letter from the District Council's Revenues Department about Government grant schemes announced in March 2020 they should complete and return the information requested. Grants cannot be issued to eligible businesses without this information. When Government guidance is received, businesses will be updated on the latest Government announcements through their newsletter.

Parish Council Meetings

Currently all face-to-face meetings of Matlock Bath Parish Council have been cancelled until further notice. New legislation has been agreed so that meetings up until May 2021 can be held 'remotely' or up until the Government revises or revokes the legislation.

Agendas will be produced as normal and posted on our website no less than 3 clear working days prior to each meeting. Minutes will also be posted on the website under Meetings and Documentation as usual within 48 hours of the meeting. The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held remotely on Wednesday 20th May. Any member of the public wishing to remotely attend the meeting can do so but we would ask that contact is made with the Clerk beforehand in order to get log in details. It is anticipated that only urgent business will be conducted plus updates on ongoing projects at these meetings.

The new legislation means that the requirement to hold an Annual meeting is now suspended. Membership will be rolled over to May 2021 unless Council wish to make alternative appointments.

Extensions have been given for Internal and External Audit. Further information can be found under Finance.

April 2020

Parks and Open Spaces

All facilities within DDDC's parks (eg play areas, skate parks etc) are still closed and park walkways are open only for people briefly exercising and observing social distancing.

Public Toilets

All public toilets are closed to meet Government coronavirus guidance.

Since the start of the lockdown period, DCC's road workers have fixed more than 10,500 potholes throughout the county.

During the lockdown period DDDC has issued various social media and press releases imploring the public to stay away. This seems to have been a success as there was a significant reduction in visitors initially. However, Matlock Bath has seen a slight increase in visitors. Police have been visual so hopefully this can be kept to a minimum. Although we accept that businesses wish to re-open, the feeling amongst residents is that this will increase the visitors to the village especially during the good weather. Whilst if people can adhere to the social distancing guidelines, it may not be a problem. However, on some of the pavements through the village, we know this will not be possible. Anyone witnessing businesses or visitors not adhering to the social distancing regulations can contact the Police on 101 anonymously.

Town Hall Staffing

Matlock Town Hall is still closed to personal visitors. You can still call them on 01629 761100. If you wish to pay a bill (Council Tax or Business Rates) or report an issue, comment on a planning application log on to Bills can be paid online by telephoning 01629 761295.
